Chisora and Wilder Mark 50th Fights in Intense Heavyweight Battle
Derek Chisora was defeated on points by Deontay Wilder in a fierce heavyweight contest held at London's O2 Arena. This fight is anticipated to be Chisora's final professional bout.
The 42-year-old Chisora was knocked down in the eighth round and pushed through the ropes. Despite appearing close to being stopped multiple times as Wilder pressed for a finish, the experienced British fighter managed to recover each time.
American Wilder secured a split decision victory with judges scoring 115–111 and 115–113 in his favor, while one judge scored 115–112 for Chisora.
Both fighters endured significant punishment throughout the bout, which, surprisingly, lasted the full distance.
Chisora had notable moments, including stunning Wilder in the fifth round, but ultimately the former world champion earned the decision.
Remarkably, this fight marked the 50th professional bout for both men. Londoner Chisora, now with 14 career defeats, had indicated prior to the fight that it would be his last. However, when joined in the ring by his family after the fight, he hesitated to confirm his retirement.
The contest was neither aesthetically pleasing nor technically elite, but it was undeniably entertaining. For Wilder, this victory represents his most significant win in recent years and extends a career that may also be approaching its conclusion.
It is only the second time in Wilder's career that he has won a fight on points.
