Emma Finucane Sets New World Record in Women's Flying 200m
Emma Finucane established a new world record for the women's flying 200m time-trial at the 2026 UEC Track Elite European Championships held in Turkey.
The 23-year-old Olympic and former world champion recorded a time of 9.759 seconds during qualifying at the Konya velodrome, shaving nearly a quarter of a second off the previous best.
Shortly after fellow Great Britain rider Sophie Capewell became only the second woman to complete the distance in under 10 seconds, Finucane surpassed her teammate's time of 9.982 seconds. Finucane achieved an average speed of 73.78 kph (45.84 mph) to set the new world record.
The former record of 9.976 seconds was held by China's Yuan Liying, set at the same velodrome in March of the previous year.
Finucane also holds the world record for the team sprint, which she set alongside Capewell and Katy Marchant during their gold medal-winning performance at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
At those Olympics, Finucane became the first British woman since 1964 to win three medals at a single Games, securing bronze medals in both the individual sprint and keirin events.
