Scores tied following remarkably dramatic final over

South Africa secured victory in an extraordinary T20 World Cup encounter against Afghanistan that concluded with scores level and a double super over.

The Proteas set a target of 187 for six after batting first, with Afghanistan responding strongly thanks to a remarkable individual performance by Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who scored 84 runs off 42 balls.

The final over of the match, bowled by Kagiso Rabada, was exceptionally dramatic, featuring two no-balls, a wide, a six from tailender Noor Ahmad, and a careless run out of Fazalhaq Farooqi, resulting in the scores being tied.

The first super over of this year's tournament also failed to separate the teams. Lungi Ngidi conceded 17 runs for South Africa, but Farooqi matched this as Tristan Stubbs hit a straight six off the last ball.

Both teams then prepared for a second super over. South Africa's Stubbs and David Miller scored 23 runs off Azmatullah Omarzai, including three sixes. Veteran spinner Keshav Maharaj managed to hold his nerve to close out the match, despite conceding three more sixes from Gurbaz between taking two wickets, maintaining the high-intensity nature of the game.
