Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Receives First India Call-Up
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the teenage batting prodigy, has been selected for the India T20 squad for the upcoming tour of England and Ireland. At just 15 years old, if he plays, he will become the youngest cricketer to represent India, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record of 16 years and 205 days when he debuted in a one-day international against Pakistan in 1989.
The selection follows Sooryavanshi's remarkable performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, where he amassed 776 runs in 16 innings at an impressive strike rate of 237.30, representing the Rajasthan Royals.
The left-handed batsman set a new IPL record by hitting 72 sixes in a single season, the highest ever. His outstanding contributions earned him multiple accolades, including the IPL Most Valuable Player award, the Emerging Player award, and the Orange Cap, which is awarded to the tournament's highest run-scorer.
Earlier in the year, Sooryavanshi scored a commanding 175 runs in February during the Under-19 World Cup final, helping India secure a victory against England.
Upcoming Matches and Squad Changes
India is scheduled to play two matches in Ireland later this month, followed by five T20 internationals in England in July.
In addition to Sooryavanshi's inclusion, Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain of the T20 squad, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, who has been omitted from the team. Yadav had previously led India to triumph at the T20 World Cup in March.
