Scotland posted 161-5 in their 20 overs, led by Kathryn Bryce's 60 and Sarah Bryce's 49, while Ireland managed 121 all out in 19.1 overs. Ava Canning took 3-27 for Ireland, but Kirstie Gordon's three wickets in a single over helped Scotland claim a 40-run win.

In their opening match at Old Trafford, Scotland achieved their first T20 World Cup victory after four previous attempts, defeating Ireland by 40 runs. A commanding 106-run partnership between captain Kathryn Bryce, who scored 60 runs, and her sister Sarah Bryce, who contributed 49 runs, propelled Scotland to a total of 161-5.

Kirstie Gordon's impressive bowling spell, which included taking three wickets in one over, disrupted the Irish batting lineup. Ireland struggled to respond and were dismissed for 121 runs.

This win marked Scotland's first success in the tournament, while Ireland's challenging T20 World Cup history continued, having lost all 18 of their matches to date.

After winning the toss, Ireland chose to field first under cold, windy, and mostly overcast conditions in Manchester. Early setbacks saw Scotland reduced to 36-2, but the Bryce sisters shifted the momentum with a crucial third-wicket partnership.

Kathryn Bryce's rapid 60 runs came off 39 balls and included six boundaries and a six. The pair scored 36 runs in just two overs, significantly boosting Scotland's innings.

Two missed opportunities to dismiss Kathryn Bryce proved costly for Ireland. Alana Dalzell misjudged the ball's flight near the boundary, and Alice Tector dropped a straightforward catch.

Despite Ireland managing to restrict Scotland's scoring in the final overs, Ava Canning's 3-27 was the standout bowling performance for the visitors.

In response, Ireland needed a strong start but lost captain Gaby Lewis for 17 runs, stumped by Katherine Fraser. Amy Hunter top-scored with 39 runs, and Orla Prendergast added 33, but Ireland's innings faltered due to effective spin bowling from Gordon, who took 3-16, and Fraser, who claimed 3-19.

Gordon's three wickets came in the same over, reducing Ireland to 70-6 and paving the way for Scotland's comfortable victory, marking their fourth consecutive win against Ireland.

Looking ahead, Ireland will face hosts England on Tuesday at Southampton, while Scotland's next match is against the West Indies at Headingley on Thursday.
