Kapp's Match-Winning Performance
Marizanne Kapp delivered a commanding unbeaten 81 runs to guide South Africa to a six-wicket victory over India, maintaining their hopes in the Women's T20 World Cup.
The all-rounder contributed with the ball as well, taking 2-27 before her powerful batting display that included seven fours and four sixes off 45 balls. South Africa successfully chased the target of 159 runs with five balls remaining.
Chase Details
Kapp joined Tazmin Brits at the crease when the score was 25-2 during the final over of the powerplay. The pair started cautiously, reaching 59 runs at the halfway point before steadily accelerating their scoring rate.
With their partnership just three runs short of a century, Brits was dismissed for 40 runs off 36 balls, caught in the deep off Shafali Verma. Kapp survived a dropped catch by Radha Yadav later in the same over.
Capitalizing on the reprieve, Kapp struck two sixes in Deepti Sharma's penultimate over. The victory was sealed when Chloe Tyron edged a four off Nandni Sharma.
India's Innings
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, marking her 200th T20 international appearance, elected to bat first. Shafali Verma provided a strong start, hitting three fours and a six in a brisk 31 runs off 15 balls.
India reached 59-2 at the end of the powerplay, but both openers were dismissed by then. Smriti Mandhana was bowled after missing a scoop shot, while Verma was caught behind off a short ball.
India struggled to build on the platform set by Verma, with no other batter surpassing her score. Deepti Sharma offered some resistance with 29 runs off 21 balls but was dismissed along with Richa Ghosh, both caught tamely at short fine leg. India concluded their innings at 158-7.
Group Standings and Upcoming Fixtures
