Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Earns Maiden India Call-Up
Teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named in India's squad for the upcoming T20 series against Ireland and England, marking his first selection for the senior national team.
The 15-year-old opener's exceptional performances have earned him the most valuable player award after scoring 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237.30.
His outstanding displays for Rajasthan Royals have propelled him into the senior India squad. Sooryavanshi was also a key figure in India's under-19 World Cup triumph this year, notably scoring a remarkable 175 runs against England in the final.
Upcoming International Debut and Series Details
Sooryavanshi is expected to make his international debut in Belfast, where India will face Ireland in two T20 matches at Stormont Ground on 26 and 28 June. Following this, India will compete in a five-match T20 series against England from 1 to 11 July, potentially reuniting Sooryavanshi with his Rajasthan Royals teammate Jofra Archer.
If he participates in the tour, Sooryavanshi will become India's youngest international debutant, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16 years and 205 days old in a Test match against Pakistan in 1989.
Team Leadership and Squad Changes
Shreyas Iyer will captain India in both series, taking over from Suryakumar Yadav, who has been omitted from the squad despite leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup on home soil earlier this year. Yadav scored 242 runs in nine innings during the tournament at a strike rate of 136.72 but had a modest average of 20.76 across 13 innings.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested after a challenging IPL season, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya will also miss the tour. In their place, uncapped fast bowler Prince Yadav has been called up to the squad.
