Welcome to the Women's T20 World Cup
Hello and welcome. The Real World Cup begins today!
With 33 matches scheduled across seven venues, the upcoming weeks promise an exciting display of T20 cricket on English soil. It has been sixteen years since England last hosted this tournament. The inaugural event was won by an England team captained by Charlotte Edwards, who is now the Head Coach of the current squad.
England's Prospects and Tournament Format
Nat Sciver-Brunt’s side enters the tournament without being the favourites. The dominant white-ball teams of Australia and India are widely regarded as the teams to beat. However, in T20 cricket, a single player having an outstanding performance can change the course of a match. England boasts several big-game players in their squad and aims to emulate the success of the Lionesses and Red Roses by winning the trophy on home soil at Lord’s on July 5th.
The tournament features twelve teams divided into two groups of six. Each team will play the others in their group in a round-robin format during the group stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
Match Details: England vs Sri Lanka
England and Sri Lanka will commence the tournament this evening at Edgbaston, where conditions are bright and blustery. The captains are currently heading out for the toss as this is being written. Play is scheduled to begin at 6.30 BST.
As always, please feel free to get in touch if you are following the match.
