Woman Admits Responsibility for XL Bully Involved in Fatal Attack

Kelcie Reed, 24, from Lawrence Weston, has pleaded guilty at Bristol Crown Court to being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, which caused the death of her teenage cousin, Morgan Dorsett.

Dorsett, aged 19 and from Shrewsbury, died following an attack by the dog at a flat located in Bishopsworth, Bristol, on 26 February 2025.

Reed was granted bail ahead of her sentencing hearing scheduled for 9 July.

The dog involved in the incident, named Prince, was sedated at the scene on Cobhorn Drive and was subsequently euthanised, according to police reports.

During the brief hearing, Reed only spoke to confirm her identity and to enter her guilty plea.

Despite granting bail, Judge Martin Picton addressed Reed's barrister, emphasizing the seriousness of the case:

"She must understand, as I am sure you've explained, the strong likelihood of immediate custody on the next occasion."

Conditions of Reed's bail include a prohibition on owning or controlling any dog under any circumstances.
