Search Underway for Missing Boy in River Don
Emergency services are conducting a search for an 11-year-old boy who was last seen entering the River Don in Mexborough.
The incident was reported at approximately 20:00 BST on Saturday when the boy was observed entering the water at Ferry Boat Lane but was not seen exiting.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that a specialist operation, including underwater searches, is currently ongoing. The boy's family is receiving support from authorities during this difficult time.
The police have requested that members of the public avoid the area to allow emergency crews to perform their duties effectively and safely.
Police Statement and Investigation Details
Inspector Neil Pryce provided information regarding the investigation, noting that witness accounts and items found on the riverbank have helped indicate the possible point where the boy entered the water.
"Utilising specialist knowledge and skills, a coordinated multi-agency operation is under way and we are doing everything we can to find this young man,"
he said.
Inspector Pryce also emphasized the importance of public safety and cooperation during the search efforts.
"This is a tragic incident and we understand that members of the public want to do all they can to help but we must ask that, for everyone's safety, only those who are involved in our operation enter the River Don."
