Cancellation of RIAT 2026

The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) scheduled for this year has been cancelled as a result of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, organisers have confirmed. The event, held at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, has a history spanning over 50 years and typically attracts more than 170,000 attendees.

Organisers described the cancellation as "not an easy decision," which followed consultations with the United States Air Force concerning uncertainties about access to RAF Fairford amid the current situation involving Iran.

Ticket Options and Future Plans

Individuals who purchased tickets for this year’s event are being given options to either receive a refund, carry over their tickets for the 2027 event, or donate the ticket cost to the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust (RAFCT).

Gavin Gager, chief executive officer of Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, addressed the cancellation and future outlook:

"We know how much RIAT means to everyone, and recognise how disappointing this news will be. It is a disappointment we feel just as strongly,"
"We would like to thank everyone for their support, loyalty, and understanding.
Looking ahead, we remain fully committed to returning in 2027, and to making sure RIAT comes back stronger than ever."

Context of the Middle East Conflict

The cancellation comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where the United States and Israel have launched attacks on Iran. Notably, Iran’s supreme leader was killed on 28 February 2026 during these hostilities.

Both the United States and Israel have accused Iran of continuing nuclear weapons development and posing a regional security threat. Despite these tensions, the United States and Iran have engaged in ongoing negotiations toward a peace agreement following a temporary ceasefire established last month.

Event Details and Charitable Aspect

RIAT operates as a not-for-profit event, with all proceeds donated to the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust. The 2026 event was originally planned for 17 to 19 July.

Ticket holders are being offered the choice to roll over their tickets to the 2027 event, receive a refund, or donate the ticket value to the RAFCT.
