PSNI Investigates Play Park Banner as Hate Incident in County Tyrone

Banner in County Tyrone Treated as Hate Incident

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is treating the erection of a banner in County Tyrone as a hate incident. The banner was fastened to a fence at a play park in the Moygashel area.

The PSNI reported receiving information about the banner on Friday, and neighbourhood inspector Robert Jeffers stated that enquiries are ongoing.

"We are engaging with local partners in relation to the banner,"
he added.

Mid Ulster Council confirmed that it had referred the matter to the PSNI for investigation.

Political Response

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew condemned the banner, emphasizing its divisive nature.

"Those who erected this vile banner have nothing to offer our society,"
Gildernew said.

He urged political representatives and community leaders to

"strongly condemn this banner and call for its immediate removal."

"There is no place in our society for racism,"
Gildernew added.

He further noted that

"This banner has clearly been erected to sow division in the community and target one part of the community."
