Search Underway for Missing Monk on Orkney Island

Police are conducting a search for a monk who has gone missing from a monastery on an Orkney island.

Justin Evans, aged 24, was last seen inside Golgotha Monastery located on Papa Stronsay on the night of Saturday.

Authorities have stated that "extensive" searches are currently in progress.

Evans was last observed wearing a white robe and is described as approximately 6 feet tall, with short hair and a dark beard. He speaks with a New Zealand accent.

Police Appeal for Information

Inspector David Hall of Police Scotland commented on the ongoing investigation:

"Extensive inquiries are ongoing to trace Justin and as time passes concerns are growing.
We are working with partner agencies and extensive searches are being carried out in the island area.
I am now appealing for anyone may have visited the island and have any information on Justin or his whereabouts to contact us."

Background on the Monastic Community

The monastery on Papa Stronsay is home to an order of Catholic monks who purchased the island over 25 years ago.

The community, originally based on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, raised £200,000 to acquire the island.
