Firefighters Respond to Railway Embankment Blaze in Walthamstow
More than 100 firefighters are currently engaged in tackling a fire at a railway embankment located in east London.
Approximately 25 fire engines and around 125 firefighters were dispatched to the scene near Vallentin Road in Walthamstow.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) reported that several properties adjacent to the railway line have also been affected by the incident.
The LFB noted that the fire is generating a “significant amount of smoke”, advising residents in the vicinity to keep their windows and doors closed. Motorists have been urged to avoid the area, including Wood Street.
The Weaver Overground line has been partially closed due to the fire.
The LFB received the initial call among more than 100 emergency calls at 6:27 pm. Control officers mobilized crews from Tottenham, Bethnal Green, Walthamstow, Chingford, and nearby fire stations to respond promptly.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
