New Trial Date Scheduled

A judge has scheduled a new trial date for Brandon Rainey, the man accused of murdering Chloe Mitchell in Ballymena.

Chloe Mitchell, aged 21 and from Ballymena, County Antrim, was killed in June 2023.

Brandon Rainey, 29, formerly residing on James Street in Ballymena, appeared at Belfast Crown Court accompanied by his new legal team.

This development follows the recent withdrawal of his previous legal representatives earlier this month, who stated they were

"professionally compromised."

Rainey's defence barrister informed the court that he has not yet had the chance to consult with his client but that a meeting is planned for the following week.

The court was also informed that Rainey's new legal team has received the case papers.

The judge set the trial to commence on 28 April, noting that this date is contingent upon the outcome of a review hearing scheduled for 13 April.

Rainey remains on remand at Maghaberry Prison, charged with murder and with attempting to prevent the lawful burial of Chloe Mitchell's body.

Details of Chloe Mitchell's Disappearance and Case

Chloe Mitchell was 21 years old when she disappeared from Ballymena in early June 2023.

Her disappearance led to extensive search efforts, culminating in the discovery of her remains approximately one week later.

Following this, Brandon Rainey was arrested and charged with the murder of Ms. Mitchell, alleged to have occurred between 2 and 5 June 2023.

In addition to the murder charge, Rainey faces charges of attempting to prevent

"the lawful and decent burial of a deceased body."
