Fatal Collision on A714

Helen Flannighan, aged 65, has been identified as the woman who died following a two-car collision on the A714 in Dumfries and Galloway on Wednesday morning.

The incident involved a Suzuki S-Cross and a Volkswagen Golf between Newton Stewart and Wigtown. Helen Flannighan was a passenger in the Suzuki at the time of the crash.

The collision occurred at approximately 09:35, and Helen Flannighan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Injuries and Hospitalization

The male driver of the Suzuki, aged 72, was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment. The female driver of the Volkswagen Golf, aged 34, was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Police Investigation and Appeal

Sergeant Lindsey Tait expressed condolences and provided an update on the ongoing investigation.

"Our thoughts remain with Helen's family at this extremely difficult time.
Our inquiries into the crash continue and I'd like to thank those who have come forward with information.
I'd urge anyone who hasn't yet spoken to police and witnessed the crash, or has dash-cam footage which could assist us, to get in touch."
