Investigation Initiated by Charity Regulator
Sport Aberdeen, the leisure operator managing over 30 indoor and outdoor sports venues in Aberdeen, has been placed under formal investigation by Scotland's charity regulator.
The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) announced last month that concerns had been raised regarding the operator, prompting the inquiry.
Funding and Governance Updates
Sport Aberdeen receives millions of pounds annually in funding from Aberdeen City Council. Recently, two council officers, Gale Beattie and Martin Murchie, were appointed to the organisation's board last week.
Sport Aberdeen stated that these appointments aim to support the organisation in continuing to
"deliver high quality sport and leisure services in the city".
Leadership Changes and Official Statements
The investigation follows significant leadership changes within Sport Aberdeen, including the replacement of former chief executive Keith Heslop in November and the departure of other directors.
An OSCR spokesperson commented on the inquiry, saying:
"Following assessment of concerns received about Sport Aberdeen, we have opened an inquiry into the charity."
Sport Aberdeen chairman Tony Dawson also responded, stating:
"We will co-operate fully with the OSCR inquiry."
Aberdeen City Council has declined to provide a comment on the matter.
