CBAC Issues Apology for Mistake in Welsh GCSE Paper

The examination body CBAC has apologized for an error in a Welsh Language and Literature GCSE paper, assuring that no students will be "disadvantaged" as a result.

The mistake involved the incorrect naming of a character in a question about the novel Llechi by Manon Steffan Ros. The paper, taken by students on Monday morning, referred to the character as DCI Karen Evans instead of the correct name, DCI Karen Davies.

This error prompted complaints from parents and students on social media, with one individual stating it had "shattered our confidence before we even started."

CBAC described such an incident as "very rare" and emphasized that the issue is being taken seriously.

'Reviewing Our Processes'

A CBAC spokesperson said:

"Hoffai CBAC ymddiheuro am y gwall wnaeth effeithio ar rai myfyrwyr oedd yn ateb ar un rhan o'n papur TGAU Iaith a Llenyddiaeth Gymraeg."
"Er ein bod yn cynhyrchu nifer sylweddol o gwestiynau arholiad bob blwyddyn, mae digwyddiad o'r fath yn rhywbeth prin iawn, ac rydym yn cymryd y mater hwn o ddifrif.
Byddwn yn parhau i adolygu ein prosesau er mwyn sicrhau nad yw rhywbeth o'r fath yn digwydd eto.
Hoffem roi sicrwydd i fyfyrwyr bod gennym weithdrefnau cadarn yn eu lle i sicrhau na fyddant o dan unrhyw anfantais ac y byddant yn cael eu trin yn deg.
Caiff ystyriaeth ofalus ei rhoi i bob ateb arholiad yn ystod y broses farcio a graddio er mwyn gwneud yn siŵr bod y canlyniad mae myfyrwyr yn ei dderbyn am eu cymhwyster yn un teg."

These are the first examinations for the new Welsh Language and Literature GCSE course, introduced as part of reforms to qualifications following the new curriculum.

Concerns have already been raised about the additional pressure on students and teachers due to changes in some qualifications.
