Job Risks at Albyn School
More than a dozen positions are at risk at Albyn School, a private institution in Aberdeen with approximately 600 pupils. The school has indicated that the independent education sector is experiencing a "rapidly changing educational and financial environment."
Currently, Albyn employs around 175 staff members. The school has announced that up to 9% of its roles may be impacted, and a consultation process is currently underway.
Despite maintaining a "strong" pupil roll, Albyn has stated the necessity to be "prudent" and acknowledge the high likelihood of reduced demand in the future.
Consultation Processes
Albyn is initiating two statutory consultations involving both teaching and support staff. One consultation focuses on potential redundancies, while the other reviews the teaching pension scheme.
Leadership Statement
School head David Starbuck commented on the situation:
"Following careful consideration, the board has approved a proposed realignment of the school's staffing levels and costs to match anticipated pupil numbers.
Acting now enables us to make thoughtful, proportionate adjustments that protect the school's long-term future."
