Man Charged in Connection with Michael Gaine Case
A man in his 50s has been formally charged in relation to the investigation into the disappearance and murder of Michael Gaine.
The 56-year-old farmer from County Kerry had been missing for over eight weeks before remains discovered on his farm near Kenmare were identified as his in May 2025.
Initially treated as a missing persons case, the investigation was later escalated to a homicide inquiry.
The individual charged is scheduled to appear before Tralee District Court on Wednesday afternoon.
Background on Michael Gaine's Disappearance
Michael Gaine, a sheep and cattle farmer, was reported missing from his residence near Kenmare on 21 March 2025. He was last seen in the town of Kenmare the day prior.
Mr. Gaine resided in the remote Carrig East area, close to the Molls Gap scenic location along the famed Ring of Kerry.
Search Efforts and Discovery
Extensive search efforts were conducted involving hundreds of volunteers who combed his farm and nearby lakes, streams, and rivers.
In May 2025, human tissue located on Mr. Gaine's farm was confirmed through identification to belong to him.
