Police in Norway have secured the vicinity around the US embassy in Oslo following reports of an explosion at the location.

Authorities deployed "large resources" to the scene at approximately 01:00 local time (midnight GMT), according to police statements.

"The police are in dialogue with the embassy and no injuries have been reported," the statement said.
"There is currently no information about exactly what happened or who may be involved," police added.

Michael Dellemyr, who is leading the police response, informed Norwegian broadcaster NRK that the explosion occurred at the public entrance of the embassy building.

Media reports indicate that the embassy sustained minor damage as a result of the incident.

The US embassy is situated in the Morgedalsvegen district of Oslo, approximately 7 kilometers (four miles) from the city center.
