Woman with Endometriosis Launches Fundraising Concert
A woman from Worcestershire who has endured a "debilitating" and "agonising" condition for 23 years has taken on the challenge of raising funds for the medical team that diagnosed her.
Harriet Amos, a musician and teacher based in Worcester, was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2016. Since her diagnosis, she has undergone five surgical operations, including the removal of one ovary.
Throughout her diagnosis and treatment, Amos received support from consultant gynaecologist Angus Thomson and the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
To coincide with Endometriosis Action Month, Amos plans to host a concert to benefit the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity.
Understanding Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a condition characterized by tissue similar to the lining of the womb growing outside the uterus, most frequently within the pelvis.
This condition affects one in ten women and is the second most common gynaecological disorder in the United Kingdom.
Amos Shares Her Motivation
Reflecting on her experience, Amos expressed her gratitude and desire to contribute:
"I have been so well looked after that I wanted to find some way to not only give something back, but also to raise the profile of this awful condition.
My decision to donate here was because those patients presenting to emergency care with agonising pelvic pain will be directed here.
If they can be met with a little extra comfort as a result of additional funds raised, that for me would mean so much, as I myself have been in that situation many times."
Support from Medical Staff
Joanna Street, lead endometriosis and pelvic pain specialist nurse at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals, acknowledged the impact of Amos's fundraising efforts. Funds raised previously have been used to purchase reclining chairs to help patients in pain sit more comfortably.

Laura Gregory, community and events fundraising officer for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, also commented on Amos's contributions:
"Harriet's fundraising has made such a difference already for patients' experience of care and her continued support will have a real impact for her local community."
Concert Details
The concert is scheduled to take place at St Stephen's Church Barbourne, Worcester, on 28 March at 19:30 GMT.
