Understanding Forever Chemicals
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are present in a wide range of everyday products, including cosmetics, raincoats, and non-stick cookware. These substances have also been detected in food, water, and even within human bodies. But what exactly are PFAS, and do they pose health risks? Scientist Mark Miodownik investigates these questions.
Produced by BBC Ideas in collaboration with the Royal Society, this exploration sheds light on the prevalence and impact of these chemicals.
Additional resources include the documentary Panorama: The Truth About Forever Chemicals available on BBC (UK), and the podcast BBC Inside Science: Where do forever chemicals come from?
