Hollywood Sign Authority Addresses Sydney Sweeney Bra Stunt Video
The head of the Hollywood Sign Trust, Jeff Zarrinnam, has stated that computer-generated imagery (CGI) was employed in a viral video that seemingly depicted actress Sydney Sweeney decorating the Hollywood sign with numerous bras. The footage, which gained widespread attention after being shared last week, appeared to show Sweeney and a film crew accessing the landmark without permission.
According to those responsible for the site, the filming was conducted without authorisation. Some observers have expressed skepticism about the crew's ability to approach the structure so closely without police intervention.
Zarrinnam confirmed that the filming occurred without official approval but emphasized that parts of the video were digitally modified.
Representatives for Sydney Sweeney have not responded to requests for comment regarding the video.
Details of the Video and Its Content
The video, intended to promote Sweeney's new lingerie brand, was posted to her Instagram account last week. Shot at night, it shows the actress and several others carrying duffel bags and equipment towards the Hollywood sign.
In the footage, Sweeney and her crew unzip the black bags and remove dozens of bras, which they then tie together and drape over sections of the sign. The final wide-angle shot displays the entire sign adorned with a long chain of bras, followed by a scene of Sweeney posing and celebrating with the sign visible in the background.
Statements from Jeff Zarrinnam on CGI Use and Security
Zarrinnam told Newsbeat that he is confident the concluding shots of the video were digitally altered.
"They used CGI for that,"
he said, explaining the difficulty of climbing the 50-foot (15.2 m) tall letters, especially at night, and the time required to cover the sign.
"There's no way you could have covered the sign in that amount of time."
He further noted that authorised stunts involving modifications to the sign, such as the 2022 makeover celebrating the LA Rams' Super Bowl victory, require extensive planning and execution.
"It would take you hours to do that,"
Zarrinnam added.
He also addressed misconceptions about which letter Sweeney was climbing in the video.
"I know that sign intimately,"
he said.
"She was climbing the letter L. If she'd tried climbing the H she probably would've fallen and broken her neck."
Permits and Permissions for Filming Near the Sign
Commercial filming near the Hollywood sign necessitates multiple permits and licenses from various Los Angeles authorities. Zarrinnam informed beat that while Sweeney and her crew had permits to film within the city and Griffith Park, where the sign is located, they did not have permission from the Hollywood Sign Trust to access the fenced-off area surrounding the landmark.
Additionally, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce (HCoC), which holds the image rights to the sign, stated it did not issue a license for the production.
Zarrinnam is conducting an investigation into the incident but has yet to receive a response from Sweeney or her production company.
He suggested that because some permits were obtained, those involved might have genuinely believed the project was authorised.
"Sydney Sweeney probably isn't reading paperwork,"
he remarked.
"Did she think she had the right to do that? Did her production team tell her what the do's and don'ts were?"
Responses to Security Concerns and Police Involvement
Following the video's viral spread, several widely shared posts questioned the official narrative, particularly why motion sensors near the sign did not trigger alarms during the filming.
The footage uploaded by Sweeney contains no audible sirens. When beat contacted the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) to inquire about their involvement, the department responded briefly:
"No report filed. No crime committed."
Zarrinnam explained to Newsbeat that the sensors were indeed activated when Sweeney's crew approached the sign, and nearby residents alerted him.
However, he said a "miscommunication" led to a potential emergency response being cancelled, and the LAPD was never dispatched.
He believes that someone from the film office mistakenly informed those who raised the alarm that the crew had permission to be there.
Potential Legal Actions and Security Enhancements
Zarrinnam stated that the decision to press charges lies with him and that he will seriously consider this once all facts are established.
"I'm upset and the neighbours are upset about it,"
he said.
"We have to get the word out so peo...
