Secret doggy paddling pool
Aryna Sabalenka has called on Wimbledon to reconsider its policy that prohibits players from bringing their dogs into the grounds. However, there is no indication that the All England Club lacks affection for dogs. In fact, it maintains a secret dog paddling pool and a designated dog toilet area behind Henman Hill. Primarily, the pool is used by security dogs, but guide dogs are also permitted to use it. With temperatures expected to reach 31°C next week, Wimbledon anticipates the facility will be well utilized.
Regarding Sabalenka’s request, she assured that her dogs would not cause any damage if the club were to change its stance.
“I can understand why they made this decision,”she said after her victory over McCartney Kessler on Wednesday.
“Obviously if the dog does something wrong inside of this historical place, it’s probably going to take a bit of time to replace. They’re probably afraid of damage inside. But I have to say all of our dogs are very well trained.
It just sometimes hurts to leave him at the house by himself,”she added.
“He suffers staying alone. It really hurts my feelings. It’s just like a little fluffy thing that always want cuddles and love. Going to the park with him, walking around, is also like some sort of meditation for me. , please, I beg you, let the dogs inside!”Despite her plea, it appears unlikely that the policy will be changed at this time.
Hawk set to go on
In relation to other animals at Wimbledon, officials have addressed concerns about Rufus the Hawk’s performance as he ages. Rufus has been overseeing the courts since the 2008 championships, when he was just 16 weeks old. Given that hawks typically have a lifespan of 20 to 30 years, some have questioned whether Rufus might be slowing down at 18 years old. However, these worries have been dismissed. Additionally, Rufus is supported by six artificial owls placed around Wimbledon, which help deter pigeons from damaging the grass.
Rory roar on Centre Court
Wednesday saw an especially enthusiastic reception for the Royal Box attendees. Among the business and sports leaders occupying the prime seats were several members of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team, including captain Luke Donald, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, and Rory McIlroy. McIlroy notably brought his Green Jacket from Augusta for the occasion, although he is not the first to do so; Danny Willett also wore his after his 2016 victory.

Strawberry towels anyone?
As is customary, Wimbledon’s official £40 towels have been among the most sought-after items this year. However, there has been an unexpected development. Typically, the classic green and purple towels outsell other variants. Yet, during the initial days of the Championship, a "strawberry red" towel introduced as a one-time edition this year has surpassed the traditional colors in sales. An insider commented,
“We always change the colour of our second towel every year,”adding,
“but it is unusual for it to outsell the traditional one.”Used tennis balls continue to be popular purchases, while those seeking an official Wimbledon melamine picnic cup are likely to be disappointed, as it has already sold out.
