Raducanu Suffers Heavy Defeat in Transylvania Open Final

Emma Raducanu's pursuit of her first title since winning the US Open in 2021 ended in disappointment as she was decisively defeated by Romanian Sorana Cirstea in the Transylvania Open final.

The British number one and top seed was outplayed throughout the match, with 35-year-old Cirstea dominating to secure a 6-0, 6-2 victory in front of her home crowd.

Raducanu, aged 23, had endured a nearly three-hour battle in her semi-final against Oleksandra Oliynykova on Friday. However, in the final against the third seed Cirstea, she was on court for just one hour and three minutes.

During the second set, Raducanu managed to level the score at 2-2 after having her blood pressure taken. Despite this brief resurgence, it was insufficient to prevent Cirstea from claiming the fourth WTA Tour title of her 20-year professional career in commanding fashion.
