Spurs Secure Western Conference Finals Spot

Stephon Castle, selected by the San Antonio Spurs as the fourth overall pick in the 2024 draft, played a pivotal role as the Spurs clinched their place in the Western Conference finals with a decisive 139-109 victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Castle led the team with 32 points, complemented by Victor Wembanyama's 19 points, helping the Spurs close the series 4-2. This win sets up a significant Western Conference finals matchup against the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Spurs faced the Thunder, the reigning NBA champions, five times during the regular season, finishing with a 4-1 record in those encounters. A similar performance in the upcoming seven-game series would secure the Spurs a spot in the NBA finals.

"We're not even thinking about that right now," Castle said following Friday's victory over the Timberwolves.

"The games ahead are a totally different game. They are rolling right now. They've won eight straight.

It's going to be tough to knock them off, but we're pretty confident we can do it."

Eastern Conference Playoff Update

In other playoff action, the Detroit Pistons defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 115-94, leveling their series and forcing a decisive Game 7.

Cade Cunningham contributed 21 points, while Paul Reed and Jalen Duren added 17 and 15 points respectively. This victory marks the second consecutive playoff round in which the Pistons have pushed their series to a deciding game.

Previously, Detroit overcame a 3-1 deficit against the Orlando Magic in the first round by winning three straight games to take the series 4-3.

The Pistons will host the Cavaliers in Detroit on Sunday to determine who will advance to face the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals.
