Bankes Secures Victory at Erzurum World Cup
Charlotte Bankes, Great Britain's Winter Olympics gold medallist, won the women's snowboard cross event at the World Cup competition held in Erzurum, Turkey, on Sunday.
Bankes had recently contributed to Team GB's historic achievement by winning the snowboard cross mixed team gold alongside Huw Nightingale at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics less than a month prior. This marked Team GB's first-ever Winter Olympic title on snow.
In Erzurum, Bankes participated in another intense race, finishing narrowly ahead of France's Lea Casta in a photo finish, with Switzerland's Noemie Wiedmer securing third place.
The 30-year-old athlete's victory marked her 27th World Cup win.
This success came after Bankes was eliminated in the quarter-final stage of Friday's World Cup event, which was won by Lea Casta.
Currently, Bankes ranks second in the snowboard cross World Cup standings with 313 points, trailing the 2025 Crystal Globe winner Casta, who leads with 324 points.
There are three remaining races in the season. The next event is scheduled to take place in Austria on 15 March, followed by the final World Cup competition in Canada on 28-29 March.
