Wrexham Duo Rathbone and Dobson Sign Contract Extensions
Wrexham midfielders Ollie Rathbone and George Dobson have both agreed to new contracts, extending their stays with the club through to 2028.
Rathbone's previous contract at Stok Cae Ras was set to expire in the summer of 2027, but he has now signed a fresh deal that secures his future at the club for an additional year. Similarly, Dobson has committed to remain with the Red Dragons until 2028.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson expressed his satisfaction with the pair's contributions and character.
"They're both really good lads, and good players, who've made significant contributions for us last year and this season," said Parkinson. "Ollie has been phenomenal for us, he really has, and George has adapted well to Championship level. They both typify what we want at the club - they play with real heart and commitment every single game, and it's great that they've got new deals."
Rathbone's Impact and Recovery
Rathbone joined Wrexham from Rotherham United in the summer of 2024 and was instrumental in the club's promotion from League One during the 2024-25 season. He scored eight goals in 42 league appearances in his debut campaign and was honored with Wrexham's Player of the Season award for 2024-25.
In the pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia, the 29-year-old suffered a serious ankle injury. After a lengthy recovery, Rathbone made his return to league action on 13 December against Watford, scoring within two minutes of coming off the bench to help secure a 2-2 draw.
Since returning from injury, Rathbone has scored six goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.
"I'm absolutely delighted to sign a new contract. It's a special day for me and my family. I'm over the moon," Rathbone said. "My time here has been great so far. It's probably the best football I've played in my career. I want to keep playing, keep improving, and create more special moments for this club."
Dobson's Consistent Performances
Dobson also joined Wrexham during the 2024 summer transfer window. The 28-year-old featured in 48 matches across all competitions in his first season under Phil Parkinson, scoring two goals.
After spending nine consecutive seasons in League One, Dobson has established himself as a key player in the Championship, having appeared in 30 of his side's 33 league matches so far this season.
"I'm delighted to sign a new contract with the club," Dobson stated. "It's been an amazing 19 months. I've loved every minute of it. It's been a fantastic journey so far. I'm delighted to extend, and hopefully we can create many more special memories."
