Watford Part Ways with Head Coach Ed Still
Watford Football Club have terminated the contract of head coach Ed Still after less than three months at the helm of the team at Vicarage Road.
The 35-year-old Belgian was appointed on 9 February on a two-and-a-half-year deal, succeeding Javi Gracia who resigned from the position.
At the time of Still's appointment, Watford were positioned 11th in the league table, just three points shy of the play-off spots. However, since then, the club has managed only three wins in 15 league matches, ultimately finishing 16th. They ended the season 16 points behind the top six and only 10 points above the relegation zone.
Still's final match as head coach was a 4-0 defeat at home to the league champions Coventry City on Saturday. This loss marked Watford's fifth consecutive defeat, during which the team conceded 16 goals and scored just one.
Following the match, Still spoke to BBC Three Counties Radio, stating:
"The end of season is needed and there is plenty of time to reset, reshape and start again afresh from the summer."
Coaching Changes and Club Statement
Watford will now commence the search for their 15th head coach since September 2019, excluding interim managers. This also marks their 12th managerial change since the conclusion of the 2020-21 season.
The club released an official statement confirming the departures:
"Watford FC have this morning parted company with head coach Ed Still.
First-team coach Karim Belhocine has also left the club.
We wish them all the best in their future endeavours."
