Ollie Cooper's Swansea Future Under Review
Ollie Cooper, who has earned five caps for Wales, faces discussions regarding his future at Swansea City following a challenging 2025-26 season.
The 26-year-old midfielder made only two appearances for Swansea during the season and experienced a disappointing loan spell at League One club Wigan Athletic.
Cooper remains contracted to Swansea.com Stadium until 2027.
He participated in Swansea's EFL Cup victory over Crawley in August before then-manager Alan Sheehan arranged a season-long loan to Wigan.
During his time with the Latics, Cooper featured in just 13 matches before returning to Swansea in January. Since his return, he has made only one substitute appearance under head coach Vitor Matos.
"Ollie came in a hard situation after his loan, coming back to the club and knowing that there are a lot of players in his position, but his professionalism is outstanding," said Matos.
He added,
"He trains every day with the same behaviour, with the same passion, and that holds all my respect.
Of course we need to speak about his future and we need to see what is the best for him and best for the club, but that is something to take care of inside of the club."
Career Overview and International Experience
Cooper has made 118 appearances for Swansea, scoring nine goals after progressing through the club's academy system.
Following an impressive loan spell at Newport County during the 2021-22 season, he returned to Swansea and established himself as a senior player under manager Russell Martin. His performances earned him a Wales debut under Rob Page in March 2023.
He has also played for Wales under Craig Bellamy but has since lost his international place due to struggles at club level.
Notably, Cooper has not started a league game for Swansea since the defeat at Stoke in February 2025, which coincided with the end of Luke Williams' tenure as Swansea manager.
