World Cup Final Scheduled for 19 July 2026
The final match of the 2026 World Cup is set to take place on Sunday, 19 July.
Prime Minister Hints at Extra Bank Holiday
The prime minister has strongly hinted that an additional bank holiday may be declared if England wins the World Cup.
Thomas Tuchel's team is scheduled to face Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday night.
The final is planned for a week later, on Sunday, 19 July.
It is widely anticipated that Sir Keir Starmer will resign as prime minister the day after the final, with Andy Burnham expected to succeed him.
If England reaches the final, it is likely that the prime minister would attend the game, which could cause a brief delay in the transition of power.
Potential Bank Holiday Details
Regarding the possibility of an extra day off in England should the team win the World Cup, Sir Keir stated:
"On the question of a bank holiday, I think I don't want to jinx it, but ask me again if we get to the final."
It is understood that the proposed extra bank holiday would be on the Friday following England's victory, which would be 24 July.
However, England would first need to secure wins in the quarter-final, semi-final, and final matches.
