Henderson Injured During England Celebrations

Jordan Henderson has undergone surgery after sustaining a broken arm during celebrations following England's victory over Mexico on Sunday.

The Brentford midfielder suffered the unusual injury when he fell awkwardly while attempting to jump over the advertising hoardings at the side of the pitch.

Although Henderson did not participate in the match, he was carried off the pitch on a stretcher while receiving oxygen.

Henderson later shared an update on social media, confirming that he had surgery in Kansas City, which serves as England's basecamp throughout the World Cup.

"Surgery done! Let's get ready for the big one Saturday."

"Thank you to all the staff that looked after me at Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute. Especially the three surgeons who carried out the operation."

The 36-year-old midfielder is expected to miss the remainder of the tournament but will stay with the squad for its duration.

England and Norway Rivalry and Tournament Progress

England's football rivalry with Norway has been highlighted as the team advances to the quarter-finals. The path to the final remains a key focus for the squad, alongside managing player discipline.

Henderson's World Cup Record and Team Celebrations

Henderson made a single appearance as a substitute in England's 2-0 group stage win over Panama, marking him as the first male player to participate in four World Cups.

Following each victory at the tournament, England players have gathered with supporters to sing and celebrate. However, it is understood that England manager Thomas Tuchel will advise players against jumping over the hoardings to prevent injuries similar to Henderson's.

Team Selection Concerns Ahead of Quarter-Final

Henderson's injury adds to manager Thomas Tuchel's selection challenges as England prepares for the quarter-final match against Norway in Miami on Saturday.

Declan Rice, Reece James, and Marc Guehi all missed group training on Wednesday, opting for individual indoor training sessions.

Guehi was absent as a precaution due to a muscular issue, Rice is managing hamstring and lower back concerns, and James has not played since sustaining a hamstring injury in England's opening game against Croatia.

There is currently no indication that any of the trio will be unavailable for the upcoming match against Norway.
