Mbappe's Knee Injury and Current Status
Kylian Mbappe joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in June 2024 after his contract with Paris St-Germain expired.
Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe is scheduled for further assessments regarding a knee issue but will not undergo surgery at this stage.
The 27-year-old France international has been dealing with an injury to the external ligament of his left knee since late 2025.
He missed the Champions League play-off second leg against Benfica last week and has traveled to Paris for additional tests.
Mbappe will be unavailable for Real Madrid's La Liga match against Getafe on Monday, and his participation in the first leg of the last-16 Champions League tie against Manchester City next week remains uncertain.
Medical Updates and Statements
A bulletin from Mbappe's representatives confirmed his presence in the French capital alongside members of Real Madrid's medical team.
"In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee with the aim of optimising his follow-up care and preparing for his comeback," said the statement.
"No surgical intervention is being planned at the moment."
Real Madrid also issued a statement confirming the diagnosis and treatment approach.
"The diagnosis of a sprain in his left knee has been confirmed, as well as the suitability of the conservative treatment currently being followed."
Coach's Perspective on Mbappe's Recovery
Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa commented last week on the decision to allow Mbappe time to recover fully.
"It was a bit of a consensus between everyone and we think the best thing is that he stops, that he recovers and comes back at 100%." Arbeloa said.
"It's not going to be a question of days, it will be a bit longer, but I can't say how long. Hopefully not too long."
Mbappe has scored 38 goals in 33 appearances for Real Madrid this season.
