Joe Allen to Leave Swansea Coaching Role
Joe Allen is set to leave his position on Swansea City's coaching staff following the final game of the season against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Having retired as a player in May last year, Allen had two playing spells at Swansea after progressing through the club's academy. He returned to the club in November 2025 alongside fellow club legend Leon Britton to assist new head coach Vitor Matos.
Now 36 years old, the Wales international will depart once again, concluding what was anticipated to be a temporary role within Swansea's backroom team.
Allen and Britton were appointed following Matos' arrival, as the head coach initially faced work permit challenges that prevented him from bringing his previous staff from Maritimo.
Despite the arrival of Portuguese staff members Diogo Medeiros, Toze Mendes, Goncalo Ricca, and Ryan Maye from Aston Villa in December, Allen and Britton remained part of the coaching setup.
Alongside Allen, head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson will also leave Swansea this summer.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Andy Mangan joined Swansea as a first-team consultant on a contract lasting until the end of the season. When questioned about Mangan's future beyond the current campaign, Matos did not provide a definitive answer.
Allen's retirement marked the end of his second playing spell at Swansea, concluding a distinguished career with nearly 600 club appearances and 77 international caps.
Born in Pembrokeshire, Allen began his career with his hometown club Swansea, contributing to their promotion to the Premier League in 2011 before transferring to Liverpool.
He spent four years at Liverpool and six years at Stoke City prior to rejoining Swansea in 2022.
