Gabby Logan Reflects on Grief and Final Moments with Terry Yorath

Presenter Gabby Logan has opened up about her experience with grief and her last moments with her father, Terry Yorath.

Terry Yorath, a former Wales and Leeds United football legend, passed away in January 2026 following a brief illness.

In a podcast interview with Hello Magazine, Logan described the loss of a parent as disorienting but expressed how the stories and messages from fans provided significant comfort.

"To have all these stories be told to me and sent to me for just a few weeks, kind of an outpouring was incredible.
You know, your dad is one thing to you and then to all these other people he was something else.
I think sport is really amazing in these moments, football was incredible and comforting.
As a family we took a lot of comfort from that.
I was so proud of him, and to hear what kind of person he was when you weren't looking, its not about the show, it's what does somebody do quietly that nobody knows about."

In 1975, Yorath became the first Welshman to play in a European Cup final

In her final conversation with Yorath, 53-year-old Logan recalled discussing his funeral arrangements and music choices. During this time, she read a heartfelt email from a fan that she had received earlier that day, which moved them both to tears.

"I was in tears reading it to him and he died that night.
I'd sat and had that really incredible conversation with him, read him that email. I thought kind of in the aftermath, what a privilege to be able to do that for him.
To give him that confidence, that you know this is what people are going to say about you.
I said to him, 'I know I'm going to get more like this', and sure enough they flooded in."

Gabby Logan to Lead FIFA World Cup 2026 Coverage

Logan is scheduled to lead the coverage, among others, for the FIFA World Cup 2026 next month.

In an interview with Wales Online, she expressed a personal disappointment regarding her schedule and the first game she will cover in the studio.

"My first game is a personal disappointment because it was supposed to be, in my mind, Canada-Wales," Logan said.
"And then I thought maybe it would be Canada-Italy.
So although I'm excited about Canada-Bosnia & Herzegovina, that wasn't the game that I thought I'd be doing when I first got presented with my schedule."
