Newport County Appoint Chris Todd as Interim Manager
Newport County concluded the 2025-26 League Two season in 20th place.
The club has appointed Chris Todd as interim manager following the resignation of Christian Fuchs.
Austrian coach Christian Fuchs stepped down as head coach of the League Two side on 27 June, after a tenure of just seven months.
Newport County confirmed that Todd will assume his new responsibilities immediately as the club searches for a long-term managerial appointment.
"Chris takes charge as the club enters an important period, and he does so with the full backing of the board, staff, and players.
His knowledge of the squad, understanding of the club's values, and commitment to its supporters make him well placed to lead the team in this interim capacity."
Chris Todd, aged 44 and a former Newport County defender, joined Fuchs' coaching staff as assistant first team coach in March. His previous roles include director of football at Eastleigh, manager of Gloucester City, assistant manager at Yeovil Town, and first-team coach at Torquay United.
Staff and Support
Newport County have also confirmed that Mark Smith will continue in his role as assistant manager.
"Everyone at the club is united behind Chris, Mark, and the squad, and we look forward to getting behind the team for the start of pre-season.
Newport County asks supporters and the media for their patience during this period.
Chris has our full confidence as he leads the team, and in due course we will carry out a considered process to determine the right long-term appointment for the club's ethos and ambitions."
Upcoming Season and Background
Players are scheduled to return for pre-season training on Monday, 29 July. The 2026-27 season will commence with a Carabao Cup match against AFC Wimbledon on the weekend of 8 August, followed by a League Two opener against Rochdale one week later.
Newport County were at the bottom of League Two when they dismissed Dave Hughes in November of the previous year.
Christian Fuchs, who was part of Leicester City's 2015-16 Premier League winning team, managed to secure the club's safety on the final day of the season. Despite this achievement, he departed the club just under two months after the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign.
