Trusty Sent Off in Celtic's Defeat to Hibernian

Referee Matthew MacDermid made the decision to send off Celtic defender Auston Trusty during the match against Hibernian on Sunday, which ended in a 2-1 home defeat for Celtic.

The dismissal occurred when the score was level at 1-1, following an incident involving Trusty and Hibernian's Jamie McGrath as they contested a corner kick.

Potential Suspension and Upcoming Matches

If the red card decision stands, Trusty, aged 27, faces a three-match ban in the Scottish Premiership. The suspension would cover upcoming fixtures against Rangers (away), Aberdeen (away), and Motherwell (home).

The red card was issued for violent conduct, which normally results in a two-match suspension. Trusty would receive an additional one-match ban due to a prior sending off in the competition this season.

Despite the potential ban in the league, the United States international remains eligible to play in the Scottish Cup match against Rangers away on 8 March.

Celtic's Official Statement on the Appeal

Celtic have confirmed their intention to appeal the red card decision through the Scottish Football Association (SFA).

Celtic FC can confirm that we will be submitting an appeal to the SFA in relation to the red imposed on Auston Trusty during yesterday's match,
the club said on X.
The club believes that the player was wrongfully dismissed and that the decision was reached following VAR intervention.
