Oxlade-Chamberlain Commits to Another Year at Celtic
England international midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has agreed to a new one-year contract with Celtic.
The 32-year-old joined the Glasgow-based club in February after a six-month period without football following the termination of his contract by Besiktas.
He made an immediate impact by scoring a last-minute winner on his debut against Livingston and went on to feature in 12 matches for Celtic.
Although seven of those appearances were as a substitute, Oxlade-Chamberlain contributed to the team's resurgence under interim manager Martin O'Neill. Celtic secured the Scottish Premiership title with a final-day victory over long-standing leaders Heart of Midlothian and also won the Scottish Cup during that campaign.
O'Neill, who was later appointed permanently, was sufficiently impressed to offer Oxlade-Chamberlain an extended stay at the club.
Support from Partner and Player's Perspective
Oxlade-Chamberlain's partner, Perrie Edwards, a member of the pop group Little Mix, publicly expressed her wish for him to remain longer at Celtic and in Scotland via social media. The player himself shared his enthusiasm about the new contract on the club's official website.
"It was an incredible time last season and to be part of that success in winning the league and Scottish Cup was so special," Oxlade-Chamberlain said.
"I'm really excited to be back and I'm looking forward to meeting up with the boys and getting to work ahead of what will hopefully be another successful season."
Upcoming Pre-Season Plans
O'Neill's squad is scheduled to travel to Ireland this weekend ahead of their first pre-season fixture against Shelbourne on Tuesday.
Following that match, Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has earned 35 caps for England and previously played for Southampton, Arsenal, and Liverpool, will join the team at their training camp in Portugal.
As of now, Celtic have not made any new signings during this summer transfer window.
