Welcome to Live Coverage of the Second Women's ODI
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the second women’s one-day international between Australia and India in Hobart. The multi-format series is currently tied after the visiting Indian team secured a 4-2 lead on points during a drought-breaking T20I series victory. Australia responded by winning the opening ODI by six wickets in Brisbane on Tuesday.
Two additional points are available today at Bellerive Oval, with the same number of points up for grabs at the venue in the third and final ODI of the series on Sunday. Following the white-ball matches, a Test match will be played, which will be worth four points.
Australia's Performance in the First ODI
Australia appeared more composed in the first ODI compared to their somewhat unsteady T20 series performance, particularly with Alyssa Healy returning to lead and bat at the top of the order. The outgoing captain began her farewell tour impressively after missing the T20 matches, scoring a half-century that helped set the tone as Australia chased a modest target of 215 runs on a seaming pitch, achieving the target with 70 balls remaining.
Beth Mooney returned to form with an excellent 76 runs from 78 balls, while Annabel Sutherland guided the team to victory with an unbeaten 48. Among the Indian bowlers, young spinner Shree Charani was the standout performer, taking 2 wickets for 41 runs, including dismissing Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll in consecutive deliveries.
India's Batting and Bowling Efforts
The Indian innings struggled to gain momentum after opener Pratika Rawal was dismissed on the second ball. However, Smriti Mandhana contributed 58 runs and captain Harmanpreet Kaur added 53, forming a partnership during the middle overs. Ashleigh Gardner was the most successful bowler for Australia, taking 3 wickets for 33 runs, supported by pacers Megan Schutt, who took 2 for 42, and Darcie Brown, who claimed 1 for 24, both of whom made early breakthroughs.
India will need to regain the sharpness they demonstrated across all facets of the game during the T20I portion of the series to prevent the overall campaign from slipping away before they depart Hobart.
