Joey Martin Re-signs with Cardiff Devils

Joey Martin, who has been recognized as the league's Forward of the Year three times and Player of the Year twice during his initial tenure with the Cardiff Devils, has re-signed with the Elite League Play-Off champions. This upcoming season will mark his 11th with the club.

Martin, aged 37, originally joined the Devils before the 2014-15 season. Throughout his time with the team, he secured the Challenge Cup twice, in 2015 and 2017, and won the Elite League title in both 2017 and 2018.

Additionally, Martin contributed to back-to-back Play-Off victories in 2018 and 2019. During the suspension of the Elite League in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he played professionally in Norway and Austria.

He returned to Cardiff for the 2022-23 season and led the team as captain to a Play-Off final win against the Sheffield Steelers in April.

In recognition of his contributions, the Ontario-born Martin was granted a testimonial by the Devils during the 2024-25 season.

Coach's Remarks on Martin's Re-signing

"I am delighted to have Joey back for another season. I loved my year of working with him," said Devils head coach Paul Thompson.
"He drives us all every day on and off the ice with his leadership and commitment to this fantastic club.
Getting our captain back in place was a priority for us."
