Support for Triathlon's Return to Derry
Ireland's most accomplished triathlete has expressed strong support for the sport's return to her hometown of Londonderry later this year.
Aileen Reid highlighted that Derry's hosting of the Europe Triathlon Cup in September will offer the world's top triathletes "an excellent opportunity" to prepare for this year's World Triathlon Championship Finals.
She described the city as an "amazing venue" for an event that will attract world-class athletes to Northern Ireland.

Currently coaching in Australia, Reid competed in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. She remains the only Irish athlete to have won a medal at a World Triathlon Series event and maintained a top 10 world ranking for three consecutive years.
Reid characterized Derry as the perfect city for the Europe Triathlon Cup event scheduled for 5 September.
"It's an amazing city and there's no better place to host it," she said.
"The roads are good, the course is technical and then you've got a fast-flowing tidal river.
Elite athletes love technical courses and City of Derry provides that."
Course Details and Event Layout
The elite competitors will complete four short bike laps covering the Foyle embankment, Foyle Road, and Craigavon Bridge before proceeding to the swim leg in the River Foyle.
The race village and finish line will be centered around Ebrington Square in the Waterside area.
Timing and Athlete Participation
Taking place three weeks prior to the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Pontevedra, Spain, Reid believes the timing of the Derry event is ideal for attracting a strong field of competitors.
"People have asked me about coming to the Derry race because they're thinking about coming," she said.
"The Australian team are talking about going to Derry and basing themselves there for a while and I said it's a fantastic idea."
Reid also noted that the wider northwest region could serve as an excellent training location ahead of the season's final event.
Inspiring Future Generations
She expressed hope that the Derry event will inspire young potential triathletes in the area.
"There'll be kids standing watching the triathlon who'll end up competing because they watched people racing in their hometown," she said.
"That's what it's all about," she added.

Derry will host both women's and men's elite races, alongside junior and amateur competitions during the September triathlon event.
