Fire Erupts at Tracy Warehouse Complex
A fire at a 1 million square foot warehouse complex in Tracy, northern California, was burning uncontrollably early Friday as authorities worked to contain the large blaze and investigate its cause.
The intense fire emitted thick black smoke in billowing clouds, with flames and a red-hot glow visible from aerial images. The blaze destroyed a medical equipment warehouse and led to evacuations of nearby facilities. No injuries have been reported.

Incident Details and Response
The fire began Thursday afternoon at the large distribution center for Medline, a major medical-surgical products provider located about 55 miles east of San Francisco. The fire spread across the street into a FedEx facility, where crews managed to contain it, according to Randall Bradley, fire chief of the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority.
Authorities evacuated a significant portion of the area due to the increased risk of embers spreading caused by wind, stated Sgt. Michael Richards of the Tracy Police Department. By early Friday, no residential evacuations had been ordered. The warehouse is situated within a large industrial park that also includes fulfillment and distribution centers for Amazon, Home Depot, and FedEx. Medline confirmed that all employees and personnel at the site were accounted for, as reported by the Associated Press.
Company and Official Statements
“We are coordinating closely with local authorities and first responders as we assess the fire’s impact and will share more details as they become available,”
a Medline spokesperson said in a statement.
Medline supplies latex gloves, masks, surgical instruments, and other medical supplies, playing a critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Environmental and Investigative Efforts
Officials are monitoring air quality and potential effects on local residents, according to Dan Arriola, the mayor of Tracy. Investigations into the fire’s origin are ongoing. Fire Chief Bradley noted that the fire was worsened by low humidity, high temperatures, and strong winds.
Challenges in Firefighting
Bradley reported that firefighting efforts were hampered by a sprinkler system that appeared to be malfunctioning and low water pressure from hydrants at the facility. These issues seemed to be related to the warehouse’s internal water system rather than the city’s infrastructure.
