Former Air Canada Pilot Faces Charges for Operating Without Proper License
Geoffrey Wall, a former Air Canada pilot from Barrie, Ontario, has been charged after allegedly flying for over 16 years without the appropriate license, according to Canadian authorities.
Peel Regional Police reported that Wall operated as an airline captain between 2009 and 2025 without holding the required airline transport pilot license necessary to fly large commercial passenger aircraft.
It is alleged that Wall piloted more than 900 domestic and international flights without the proper licensing. Air Canada confirmed that Wall, aged 59, possessed a valid commercial pilot license but was promoted to captain without obtaining the mandatory airline transport pilot license.
The airline stated that Wall was removed from active duty once the licensing discrepancy was discovered and that the issue was voluntarily reported to Transport Canada, the regulatory body overseeing aviation safety. Wall is no longer employed by Air Canada.
Authorities indicated that irregularities were identified during a documentation review, prompting Transport Canada to notify Peel Regional Police earlier this year.
Air Canada emphasized that safety was not compromised during this period and that a comprehensive audit of its pilots revealed no other cases of non-compliance.
“Safety was not compromised by this incident because all pilots at Air Canada undergo mandatory recurrent training every six months to validate their flying competency, including a flight check with a certified Transport Canada check-pilot every 12 months,”
“However, appropriate licensing is an essential layer of the airline industry’s multi-layered approach to safety, so Air Canada takes this matter with utmost seriousness.”
The airline declined to provide further comments due to privacy laws and the ongoing criminal investigation.
Although the pilot was not named in the initial statements, Air Canada confirmed that Transport Canada has fined him for operating as an aircraft captain without the correct license.
Additionally, police have alleged that Wall submitted a false report concerning the theft of pilot documentation.
