Former Congressman Barney Frank Passes Away
Barney Frank, a former US congressman known for challenging Wall Street and as one of the first openly gay members of Congress, died on Wednesday, according to US media reports. He was 86 years old.
Frank represented southern Massachusetts in the House of Representatives for more than 30 years. Since April, he had been residing in hospice care at his home in Maine.
Legacy and Contributions
He is remembered as a trailblazer for LGBT rights, notably as the first member of Congress to enter into a same-sex marriage. Additionally, Frank played a significant role in reforming financial regulations following the 2008 financial crisis.
"He was, above all else, a wonderful brother. I was lucky to be his sister," Frank's sister Doris Breay told NBC Boston.
