Disorder in Londonderry Involving Petrol and Paint Bombs
On Friday evening, a group of approximately 15 youths engaged in disorderly conduct in Londonderry by throwing petrol and paint bombs, as well as heavy masonry, at police officers.
The incident occurred on Irish Street while a band parade was passing through the area. According to a police spokeswoman, the group initially interacted with officers and left the scene but soon returned to commence the attacks.
There were no reported injuries, although two police vehicles sustained minor damage during the disturbances.
Details of the Incident
Superintendent Sinead McIldowney reported that the youths gathered around 21:45 BST on Irish Street. She noted that the individuals had covered their faces and were carrying several flags as the parade passed through the interface area.
Upon their return, armed with projectiles, a period of disorder ensued. Calm was not restored until approximately 01:00 on Saturday morning.
"The crowd eventually dispersed - with police remaining in the area for a time in an effort to locate those involved," McIldowney said.

Superintendent McIldowney described the diversion of police resources due to this incident as "completely unacceptable." She urged parents and s to speak with their children to ensure they are aware of their whereabouts and to discourage participation in such reckless behavior that could result in injury.
"We would particularly ask parents and s to speak to their children so they know where they are, and that they do not become involved in such reckless behaviour that could lead to someone getting hurt," McIldowney added.
She also confirmed that investigations are ongoing and warned that there will be consequences for those involved, including proactive arrests should similar behavior occur in the future.
"Our enquiries are ongoing today, and there will be consequences to those involved and any further similar behaviour by way of proactive arrests."
