Woman charged over breach of Donaldson victims' anonymity

A woman has been charged with breaching an anonymity order in relation to the victims of former DUP leader and convicted paedophile Jeffrey Donaldson. Police said the 55-year-old was arrested in the Ballynahinch area on Tuesday by detectives

She has been charged with a breach of a lifetime ban on reporting the identity of a victim or victims. The woman is due to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates' Court on 24 August.

What is the background to the case?

Donaldson, who was an MP from 1997 until 2024, was convicted in June of 18 counts of sex abuse including one count of rape, which he committed against two women when they were children. He was told by the judge that the sentence would be a lengthy one.

It has since been confirmed he is to appeal his convictions.
