Two men have been charged after police carrying out vehicle checks at a ferry port “detected a smell” coming from a van and found a large seizure of herbal cannabis. The drugs, worth about £375,000, were discovered in a van travelling to Northern Ireland after officers stopped vehicles due to board a ferry from Cairnryan in Dumfries and Galloway at about 07:15 on Friday morning.

Police Scotland said officers noticed the odour and then discovered the drugs within the vehicle. The force said the seizure was worth about £375,000 and involved herbal cannabis being transported on a ferry route from Cairnryan to Northern Ireland.
Who has been charged?
Police Scotland said that two man, aged 43 and 18, were arrested and charged over the incident. They are due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday.
“This was a substantial recovery which highlights our continued commitment to disrupting drug activity and supply that aim to abuse our sea ports.”
