Security Alert Concludes Following Vehicle Examination

Police and Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) conducted an examination of a vehicle parked near the train station in Londonderry. After a thorough search, the vehicle was declared safe, bringing an end to the security alert.

Evacuation and Road Closures Implemented During Alert

The security alert commenced at approximately 16:00 BST on Wednesday, prompting a public safety operation. As a precaution, the Waterside train station was evacuated and temporarily closed. Additionally, several roads, including the lower deck of the Craigavon Bridge, were closed as officers established cordons around the area to ensure public safety.

All previously closed roads have since reopened, and train services have resumed normal operation.

Police Response and Public Appeal

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) acknowledged the disruption caused by the operation and expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation throughout the incident.

"Officers acted immediately to protect public safety and confirmed that, although nothing untoward was discovered, enquiries are continuing."

Police have appealed to anyone who was in the Waterside area, particularly near the train station, on Tuesday or in the days prior, to come forward if they noticed anything unusual or suspicious.
