A number of residents have been relocated from their homes following a security alert in Lambeg, County Antrim.

Police are currently present at the scene on Hillview Avenue and have advised the public to avoid the area at this time.

Community Response and Support Measures

SDLP councillor Pat Catney, who was at the scene, estimated that up to 100 people may be affected by the situation.

"We are opening the island centre for anyone that's put out of their house tonight"

He confirmed that provisions would be made available for those displaced from their homes.

Independent councillor Gary Hynds, also present in the area, stated that he has been working to reassure residents.

"The council will have things in place for anyone that might need them."
